Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ENEOS Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) recently closed its Wakayama Refinery in Arida, Japan, as part of a broader effort to reduce carbon emissions and eliminate aging units. The 120,400-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Wakayama Refinery started operations in 1941 and had been the oldest refinery from ENEOS.
ENEOS plans to demolish the refinery's units and equipment, although no schedule has been announced. ENEOS also is planning to convert the plant to the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which uses vegetable oils as a feed. The construction of the SAF unit is scheduled to kick off in 2025.
Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Petroleum Refining Project and Plant databases can read a detailed profile for the proposed SAF complex, as well as detailed reports for its construction and a proposed solar unit.
Subscribers also can read a detailed profile for the now-closed refinery, and read detailed project reports on the dismantlement of its refinery units and its boiler and turbine units.
