Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Jiangsu No.1 Electric Power Construction Company Limited (JEPC1) (Nanjing, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), recently won the equipment erection bid (Bid 2) for Zhongshan Jiaming Electric Power Company Limited's (Zhongshan, Guangdong) 1,380-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle unit expansion project. This is the first power source project ever taken up by the JEPC1 in the Guangdong province, according to an announcement from the CEEC on April 28, 2013.
According to the bid of award, JEPC1 will be responsible for the erection and commissioning of the second and third sets of combined-cycle units, as well as their auxiliary systems.
The Zhongshan Jiaming Hengmen Power Plant, located in the Torch Development Zone of Zhongshan City in South China's Guangdong province, was built in 1994. After the merging and reorganization carried out in 2001, the power plant is now a subsidiary of CNOOC Gas & Power Group (Beijing) (52.7%), the gas and power business operator of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) (Beijing), with joint investment from Zhongshan Guandong Investment Company Limited (Zhongshan, Guangdong) (22.3%), a company under the control of the municipal government of Zhongshan City, and Shandian Limited (Hong Kong) (25%).
The power plant currently has two 125-MW, coal-fired steam turbine generating units and two 390-MW (F Class), gas-fired, combined-cycle units in operation. Of which, the two coal-fired units built in Phase I were commissioned in 1997 and 1998, and the two gas-fired units built in Phase II were commissioned in May and November 2009.
The current expansion project is referred to as Phase III of the power plant. The project received approval in December 2011. According to the approval, the expansion project will be furnished with three combined-cycle units, each comprising one M701F4 combustion turbine, one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), and one steam turbine in single-shaft layout.
The main equipment for the project was awarded to Dongfang Electrical Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) in May 2012. Construction of the project kicked off in September 2012. According to the schedule, the first unit will begin operations in December 2013, and the entire project will be completed in April 2014.
