Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first 460-megawatt (MW), gas-fired, combined-cycle cogeneration unit of CNOOC Gas & Power Group's (Beijing) Phase III expansion at the Zhongshan Jiaming Hengmen Power Plant began commercial operations on June 6 after passing a 168-hour, continuous, full-load trial, construction contractor Power Construction Corporation of China (Beijing) said recently.

The Zhongshan Jiaming Hengmen Power Plant, located in the Torch Development Zone of Zhongshan City in southern China's Guangdong province, was built in 1994. The power plant included two 125-MW, gas-fired, steam turbine generating units, and two 390-MW (F Class), gas-fired, combined-cycle units.
The Phase III project includes three combined-cycle units, each comprising a M701F4 combustion turbine, a heat-recovery steam generator (HRSG), and a steam turbine in single-shaft layout. The gas turbines and generators are supplied by Dongfang Electrical Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan).
The other two Phase III, gas-fired cogeneration units will begin commercial operations shortly. Upon completion, the total installed capacity of Jiaming Hengmen Power Plant will reach 2,400 MW, making it the largest operating gas-fired cogeneration power plant in China. In addition to supplying more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity each year to the China Southern Power Grid, the plant will replace 67 small, coal-fired boilers in Zhongshan Development Zone, and supply steam and heat to local users through its associated heat supply pipeline works.
As a key project for China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) (Beijing) "offshore gas=landing program," Phase III of the Jiaming Hengmen Power Plant will consume more than 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year. The total gas consumption for all seven units in the plant is expected to reach 2 billion cubic meters per year. Aiming to be the largest gas-fired power producer in China, CNOOC Gas & Power Group has been deploying power plants in southern and southeastern China in recent years.
