Klabin S.A. Performs Detailed Engineering for Paper Machine Addition

(Sao Paulo, Brazil) is developing detailed project engineering to proceed with the installation of a sack kraft paper machine in its paper mill in Correia Pinto (Santa Catarina, Brazil). The total investment in the project is estimated to be about $106.58 million.

The project seeks to increase the plant's manufacturing capacity through the addition of a new paper machine that will have a capacity to produce 80,000 tons of sack kraft paper per year. After the project is completed, the plant will have a total annual production capacity of 270,000 tons. The installation of the machine also requires the expansion of the facility. Infrastructure construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, and the machine is expected to be operating at the end of 2013.

Correa Pinto's mill is located in the state of Santa Catarina. Its operations started in 1969. It has a current pulp production capacity of 160,000 tons per year and it produces 190,000 tons of kraft paper per year. The industrial complex has a 37-megawatt (MW) powerhouse, and the electricity generated is used for the facility's self consumption; the excess is sold to the national grid. At present, approximately 370 people work at the facility.
