Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Loblaw Companies Limited (TSX: L.TO) (Toronto, Canada) is in the process of preparing detailed design for their proposed grassroot regional distribution warehouse project in Ajax, Ontario Canada (PEC ID# 53001816, Plant ID# 1061006).
Current plans call for the construction of an 800,000 square foot distribution warehouse that will provide dry goods, cooler, and frozen foods storage capabilities to support their grocery stores in the region. The addition of this warehouse should radically improve the efficiency and help streamline operations for those stores.
Loblaw plans to select a general contractor in early 2004 to supervise the project. Once a general contractor is selected, Loblaw expects to commence actual construction by the late spring or early summer of 2004. The grassroot warehouse should be operational by the winter of 2005 at the latest.
Loblaw Companies Limited is Canada's largest food distributor with stores and markets across the country. Loblaw is also one of the largest private sector employers in Canada with over 122,000 full-time and part-time employees.
