Meridian Energy Constructs 60 Megawatt White Hill Windfarm in New Zealand

New Zealand state-owned Meridian Energy Limited (Wellington, New Zealand) is planning to select a construction firm in late June or early July 2005 for construction of a 60-megawatt (MW) windfarm near Mossburn, Akaroa, New Zealand. Known as the White Hill Windfarm site construction activities are scheduled to kick-off in July 2005.

Meridian Energy selected Vestas New Zealand, a subsidiary of Vestas Wind Systems (Ringkobing, Denmark), to provide 29 model V80 (2-megawatt) wind turbine/generator sets for the project. Meridian Energy's current schedule calls for the delivery of the turbine/generator sets and the erection kick-off in January 2006. Operations are expected to begin in April or May of 2006, and total commercial operation by September 2006.
