Mexico's CFE Postpones Bidding Dates for El Sauz Power Station Modernization Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Mexico's state-owned CFE Comision Federal de Electricidad (Mexico City) has recently modified the bidding schedule for a turnkey contract for the modernization of the 236-megawatt (MW) Block 1 of the El Sauz power station in the central state of Queretaro.

The initial schedule, which was published on May 27, 2010, established October 20, 2010, as the final date for the delivery of proposals, while the signing of contracts and the beginning of construction had been set for December this year. The new schedule postponed the proposals due-date to January 11, 2011, while the formal signing of contracts and construction kickoff dates were moved to February 2011. The scheduled construction period remains 827 days, with completion expected in May 2013.

Currently, Block 1 of the El Sauz Power Station consists of three 52-MW ABB GT11 combustion turbine-generator sets with heat-recovery steam generators (HRSGs), as well as an 80-MW ABB steam turbine-generator set. The modernization project involves replacing the three gas turbine-generator sets and their related HRSGs with one or two new gas turbine-generator sets with HRSGs attached to operate in combined-cycle mode with the existing steam turbine.

In addition, the balance of plant and auxiliary equipment will be modernized and upgraded. The new configuration should guarantee a minimum generation capacity of 219 MW.
