Written by William Whitney, Senior Correspondent for Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). After a whirlwind initial U.S. tour originating in Chicago's McCormick Place and covering America's east coast from Georgia to Massachusetts, Siemens rolling trade show on wheels magically appeared on the railhead at Historic Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan on April 2nd.
The brainchild of Siemens (NYSE: SI) (Munich, Germany) Spanish Energy & Automation division, the promotional phenomena, Exider Train, consists of fourteen railroad cars packed with dazzling sci-fi like industrial displays and automation solutions. Prior to arriving in the United States, Exider toured some 22 countries and 120 cities throughout Europe and Asia.
The Greenfield Village stop hosted approximately 1,000 senior level automotive designers, engineers and executives. Automotive manufacturers and suppliers have a well-known penchant for emerging technologies and gee whiz applications - and no one in the Motor City was disappointed!
And then, it was all over too quickly as Exider slipped out of her Detroit area rail siding under the cover of night, steaming southwest 24/7 for the next stop at the Southwest Electrical Exposition (SWEE) in Houston, Texas.
Industrialinfo.com campaigned with Exider again as a major exhibitor at the Houston SWEE event, which hosted more than 145 exhibitors and thousands of attendees with industrial interests across the southwest. Working from the Industrialinfo.com's 45 foot corporate motor coach, our colleagues, clients, and visitors were afforded a bird's eye view - positioned directly adjacent to sprawling semi-circled Exider.
Interestingly, the Houston venue is only the second (and last) time Exider has been removed from her rail chassis during the entire North American tour - the first being McCormick Place, Chicago.
Along with Siemens' John Dimmerling (Director of Corporate Marketing), Fred Noblett, Jr. (Vice President Industrial Sales) observed, "This is a tremendous opportunity for Siemens to present important emerging technologies and process applications to the vast industrial marketplace not only here in Houston, but the entire thriving Gulf Coast."
Readers can follow the Exider odyssey in Mexico with exclusive reports from Industrialinfo.com correspondent Carlos Ressler, as she makes way for the first of a five-stop tour starting at the industrial complex in Monterrey, Mexico.
Siemens brings their Crown Jewel back into America with stops in Los Angeles, California (May 13th), San Francisco, California (May 18th) and Seattle, Washington (May 25th) before her terminus across the border in Canada.
Hurry home Exider - Industrialinfo.com will be waiting!
