Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Mississippi Electric Power Association (SMEPA) (Hattiesburg, Mississippi) is in the process of repowering two steam turbine generators to improve performance, cost effectiveness and reliability, and increase generating capacity by 150 megawatts (MW) at its natural gas/oil-fired power station in Moselle, in Jones County, Mississippi.

Burns & McDonnell (Kansas City, Missouri) is conducting preliminary engineering, detailed design and construction management. Two General Electric (NYSE:GE) MS7001EA combustion turbines will supply waste heat to two Vogt duct-fired heat-recovery steam generators to drive two 1970s-era 59-MW steam turbine generators. Newpoint Thermal LP (Smyrna, Georgia) was selected to provide the fuel gas conditioning system.

Construction commenced in August 2010 and is expected to be complete by November 2012. According to Marcus Ware, assistant general manager for SMEPA, while there are no immediate plans to repower the third 59-MW GE steam turbine generator, it is a possibility in the future.
