Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Bald Hills wind farm is a 104 megawatts (MW) wind farm that will be located at Walkerville, Victoria, Australia. The project is owned and built by Mitsui & Company Limited (Melbourne, Australia). In August 2012, Mitsui selected Repower Australia Private Limited (Melbourne, Australia) as the preferred Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor for the project. Repower will also supply the turbines to build the wind farm project.
Repower undertook the overall management of the project and is currently finalizing the subcontractors and electrical workers, which will then be subcontracted again.
With the first set of turbines to be delivered to the site in June 2013, the project is expected to be fully operational by early 2014. Along with wind farm, Mitsui will also build a new 27 kilometer, 66 kilovolt power line to connect the wind farm to the national electricity grid.
The wind farm has a long history with the initial proposal made in early 2003 by a company called Wind Power Proprietary Limited, with 84 wind turbines. The proposal was revised significantly to cover only 52 turbines in order to achieve the planning permits. Mitsui and Company acquired the project in 2008 and has been working towards securing all the development approvals for the project.
The wind farm will feature 52 Repower MM82 turbines, which will be producing 2.05 MW of capacity each, to generate a total capacity of 104 MW. Electricity generated from the wind farm will be supplied to over 62,000 homes in Victoria. Environmental benefits of the wind farm will include reductions in 335,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
