Modesto Irrigation District Completes Construction of $80 Million Peaking Power Project in Ripon

Modesto Irrigation District (MID) (Modesto, California) has completed construction and is in start up testing for the estimated $80 Million 95-Megawatt Ripon MEGS District Generation Station located in Ripon, San Joaquin County, California.

Construction for the project began in July 2004 and was completed last month. MID anticipates full commercial start up for the project in May. The project consists of two 47-Megawatt natural gas fired GE Power Systems LM6000PD SPRINT combustion turbine generators that will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration generating power in the summer and winter months when electrical demands are at the highest. The project will also feature state-of-the art air emissions-reduction technology including Water Injection (WI) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) for the reduction of NOx emissions. Water for the new power plant will be provided by the City’s Waste Water Treatment plant that is adjacent to the power plant. Once the project is fully operational it will be connected to the grid though MID’s 69 kV Stockton Substation.
