National Starch and Chemical Moves Forward with Major Expansion and Consolidation at East Coast Plant

Late last year, National Starch and Chemical Company (Bridgewater, New Jersey) announced plans to invest heavily in new capacity and technology to increase production of pressure sensitive acrylic and rubber adhesive solutions through the construction of a new production unit at its Salisbury, North Carolina, plant site. As reported by Industrialinfo.com in January 2005, construction is well underway and includes the consolidation of manufacturing capacity from its Meredosia, Illinois, plant, which is scheduled for closure later this year.

Engineering and design for this nearly $20 million project was provided by Perigon Architects & Engineering (Matthews, North Carolina). Perigon has provided engineering services for improvement and capital projects at the Salisbury site for several years. The project includes multiple new production units, process equipment, and product storage additions, plus modifications to the existing buildings.

The Salisbury expansion is planned to fuel the growth in demand for National Starch's RESYN® and AMPHOMER® products used in hair care products. An estimated 20 to 30 new jobs will be created in the local market upon the expansion's completion, expected by the end of the year.
