New York Power Station to Go Offline for Five Months

This outage includes a complete turbine and generator teardown of the 385-megawatt Unit 2. Engineers will inspect and repair major components of the turbine and generator. The plant will also upgrade the Alstom manufactured boiler, which produces the steam required to power the turbine. Major components that will be upgraded or replaced include the heaters, drums, ducts and the boiler refractories. The refractories are heat-resistant materials that surround the linings of high-temperature furnaces.
