Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $10 billion worth of industrial projects that are under construction in New York state, not including offshore wind projects in New York waters. The project activity is varied, including everything from power projects to pharmaceutical and biotech facilities.

The highest-valued project ($2.3 billion) is the dismantlement/decommissioning of the Indian Point Energy Center, a nuclear-fired, three-unit power plant in Buchanan. The 1,045-megawatt (MW) plant, which was previously owned by Entergy (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana), closed in April 2021 after providing electricity to the region for almost 60 years. Ownership was then transferred to Holtec International (Jupiter, Florida), which began dismantling Unit 3 later that year. Holtec expects decommissioning work to be complete by 2033. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can read a detailed project report.

Other Power Industry projects underway in New York are for solar generation, although these projects are expected to wrap up around the end of the year: EDF Renewable Energy North America's (San Diego, California) Morris Ridge solar farm near Mount Morris, about 60 miles east of Buffalo (see project report); NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) High River Energy Center in Montgomery County (see project report) ; and Hecate Energy's (Chicago, Illinois) Cider Solar plant in Genesee County (see project report.)

Projects in the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry also feature prominently across New York. Regeneron (NASDAQ:REGN) (Westchester County, New York) is in the middle of a two-phase, $1.8 billion capital investment to expand research, preclinical manufacturing and support facilities at its research and development (R&D) facility in Tarrytown, in Westchester County. Construction of a $680 million addition--a two-story, 207,000-square-foot building--kicked off in 2022 and is expected to wrap up by the end of this year. It will be equipped for pre-clinical manufacturing and process development (PMPD) of biological therapeutics to treat cancer, eye diseases, inflammatory diseases, pain, cardiovascular diseases and allergic conditions.

Meanwhile, overlapping the project is a $400 addition of six clinical-scale buildings, totaling about 1 million square feet, that will further expand research and development (R&D) for the aforementioned therapeutics. The full expansion project is expected to be complete in 2027. Subscribers to the GMI Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can read detailed reports on the PMPD and R&D projects.

Another high-dollar project underway is the construction of The Coca-Cola Company's (NYSE:KO) (Atlanta, Georgia) $660 million grassroot dairy-beverage production plant in Webster, which is designed to produce milk products for its Fairlife subsidiary. Coca-Cola acquired the Fairlife brand in 2020. Construction kicked off earlier this year, with completion expected in late 2025. Manufacturing project activity encompasses a wide range of sectors, and New York is proof of that. DataBank Limited (Dallas, Texas) is renovating a former Verizon data center in Orangeburg. The $300 million project, which is expected to wrap up in mid-2025, entails constructing a new 300,000-square-foot data center with five data halls. Subscribers to the Industrial Manufacturing database can click here to read more information.

Another renovation project is at General Motors Company's (NYSE:GM) (Detroit, Michigan) plant in Lockport, in Niagara County, which produces components and systems--including motor components--for a variety of GM vehicles. Work includes renovating the plant's interior/exterior and purchasing and installing new equipment and systems, to produce stators--a key component of electric vehicle (EV) motors. Construction is expected to wrap up around the end of the year. Subscribers can read the project report.
