Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Northeast Biofuels LLC (Fulton, New York), a branch of investor-owned Permolex International L.P. (Red Deer, Alberta), is currently going through start-up, commissioning and testing activities in expectations of grinding corn as early as next week at their new plant in Volney, New York, beginning ethanol production a few days later.

Construction of the estimated $200 million plant started in September 2006 under the direction of design-build contractor Lurgi Incorporated (Memphis, Tennessee). The plant sits in the old brew house of the Miller brewery that closed in 1994. Much of the plant's existing brewing infrastructure was renovated and modified to produce ethanol.

At full capacity, the plant will produce 114 million gallons per year of the renewable fuel from some 43 million bushels of corn annually. Corn feedstock for the plant is already being stored on-site, and additional bushels sit at the Port of Oswego.

Components of the complex include a carbon-dioxide-processing plant being built by BOC Gases (Murray Hill, New Jersey), a subsidiary of Linde Ag (OTC: LNAGF) , (Munich, Germany) a biodiesel plant planned by GS CleanTech Corporation (New York, New York) that will process corn oil into biodiesel and a feed mill planned by Perdue Farms (Salisbury, Maryland) that will process and market the 367,000 tons per year of distillers grains generated by the plant.

Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 156 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 98 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
