Northern States Power Begins Construction on $300 Million Power Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Northern States Power Company, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, Incorporated (NYSE:XEL)(Minneapolis, Minnesota), has begun construction of a $300 million expansion project located at the High Bridge Power Station in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Construction for the project started this month and is scheduled to be ready for commercial operation in March of 2008. The project will consist of adding a 2-on-1 combined cycle power island to the existing plant equipped with two 170-megawatt Mitsubishi Heavy Industries M501F combustion turbines, two Nooter/Ericksen Heat Recovery Steam Generators and a 170-megawatt Mitsubishi Heavy Industries steam turbine generator. The new additions to High Bridge will boost the plant’s total nameplate capacity by 510 megawatts and generate the needed power for the growing demand of Northern State customers.

Lockwood Greene, based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is providing the turnkey engineering, construction and procurement services for the project.
