Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 50-megawatt Windsor solar photovoltaic power plant, which is located in Windsor, Ontario, recently achieved commercial operations following its completion by Windsor Solar LP (Mississauga, Ontario), a joint venture of Samsung Renewable Energy Incorporated (Mississauga) and Connor, Clark and Lunn Infrastructure (Toronto, Ontario).
The project, which is majority-owned by Samsung Renewable Energy, engaged PCL Constructors Canada Incorporated (Mississauga) as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
The Windsor project is located at the Windsor International Airport and is now the second-largest solar farm in Ontario. The project features approximately 208,000 solar panels on more than 432 acres of land. The power generated from the solar farm is sufficient to power approximately 8,200 homes. Power generated by the Windsor project will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) (Toronto).
Construction of the solar farm began in January 2016 and took slightly less than 10 months to be completed. The project had a total investment value of $195 million. EDF Renewable Canada (Toronto) will be responsible for operation and maintenance for the solar-farm.
