China's Panhua Group Company Limited, also known as HBIS Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Philippine government to construct a 10 million-ton-per-year integrated steel mill in the country. The steel mill project is one of the flagship proposals of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to establish the country's steel industry and rely less on Chinese steel imports. The majority of the Philippines' steel spending is focused on new steel mills, as the country implements its iron and steel industry roadmap to become globally competitive.
