Written by Amir Richani for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) continues to be an ever-growing global energy player after announcing two new pre-salt discoveries in the Santos and Campos basins.
The energy company said it found hydrocarbons at well 4-BRSA-1395-SPS in the Aram block in the Santos Basin, 245 kilometres (about 152 miles) from the city of Santos, at a depth of 1,759 meters.
The company is still drilling the well, though hydrocarbon-bearing intervals have been detected by means of wireline loggings, gas shows and fluid sampling.
The Aram block was acquired in March 2020 by a consortium composed of China National Petroleum Corporation (Beijing, China), which holds a 20% stake, and Petrobras, which owns the remaining 80% and operates the asset.
Meanwhile, in the Campos Basin, the company announced positive results from its well 1-BRSA-1394-RJS at the Norte de Brava block, about 105 kilometres (65 miles) from Rio de Janeiro state's coast at a depth of 575 meters.
The well drilling has been completed and it is undergoing final wireline loggings. The company detected hydrocarbon-bearing intervals, which will be analyzed to assess new exploratory activities in the area.
Petrobras acquired the Norte de Brava block in December 2022 and holds 100% of the asset.
The state company aims to drill 51 exploration wells between 2025 and 2029, with 25 of those planned for the south and southeast margin, which include the Santos and Campos basins, another 15 in the Equatorial margin, which is in the northern part of Brazil, and 11 more in other areas.
The company projects at least four appraisal wells for the Aram block in the next five years. Other blocks in the exploration plans in Campos and Santos include the Agua Marinha, C-M-477, Alto de Cabo Frio Central, Albacora, and Marlim Sur.
The vast resources at the Campos and Santos basins have made Petrobras and Brazil one of the world's largest hydrocarbon producers. The energy company expects to continue expanding its assets across those areas in the next years, with several offshore platforms to be deployed to grow its production.
