Plans for Two 600-Megawatt Thermal Power Projects Approved in Inner Mongolia

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has approved two thermal power projects in northern China's Inner Mongolia region, the NDRC announced on July 10.

Hohhot Jinqiao Thermal Power Plant

•Project: 600-megawatt (MW) grassroot plant
•Location: Jinqiao Economic & Technology Development Zone
The plant will be built with two 300-MW subcritical coal-fired cogeneration units, along with flue gas desulfurization and associated heat-supply pipelines. Upon completion, the project will have 9.7 million square meters of heating capacity, replacing 57 small boilers scattered in its heating area. The project will be built and invested by Northern United Power Company Limited (Hohhot), a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (Beijing).

Baotou II Thermal Power Plant

•Project: 600-MW expansion
•Location: Qingshan District of Baotou City
The plant, owned by Inner Mongolia Mengdian Huaneng Thermal Power Company Limited (Hohhot), was built in 1956 with a total installed capacity of 625 MW. The expansion project will be located at the northeast side of the existing plant area. According to the NDRC, the company plans to build two 300-MW subcritical coal-fired cogeneration units by removing a part of the smaller units that are out of commission. The project will also provide flue gas desulfurization devices and associated heat supply pipelines, as well as renovate the desulfurization of the existing two 200-MW units. Upon completion, the project will have at least 7.2 million square meters of heating capacity, replacing 10 small boilers in its surrounding area.
