Researched by Industrial Info (Sugar Land, Texas)Landmark Services Cooperatives (Cottage Grove, Wisconsin) plans to build the first soybean crushing plant in Wisconsin recently gained momentum when the firm received financial commitments to match funds from a state grant. Approval of the state grant hinges on a legislative vote. Both private and state funds would be combined to complete engineering studies and final estimates.
Among the top 13 soybean-producing states in the country, Wisconsin is the only state that does not having a crushing facility to extract its own soybean oil. Presently, soybeans are exported to crushing facilities and imported back to Wisconsin in the form of oil for bio-diesel production.
Industrial Info is tracking more than $900 million in capital expenditures related to soybean-crushing plants that are in the planning, engineering and construction phase throughout the U.S. and Canada. Plants are being developed to serve both the Alternative Fuels Industry and the Food & Beverage Industry.
