Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Plastic Reclaiming Technologies (Huntsville, Alabama), formally Cable Plastic Reclaiming, Incorporated, started commercial production the last week of March at their new plant site located in La Porte, Indiana (Plant 1061052; PEC 11002228). This new plant processes waste materials, such as polymers of granulated copper wire using a continuous mineral-processing technology that will use a centrifuge to reclaim copper, nylon, PVC, polyethylene and polypropylene materials.
Once the new plant reaches full design capacity it is expected to process over 20,000 tons of plastics per year with no steam or incineration used in the process. Construction began in September of last year under the direction of Lathrop Company (Toledo, Ohio), the project's general contractor. This new plant occupies a former distribution building located on 755 South 500 West Avenue in La Porte.
This new plant fills a growing need that is continuing to increase as manufacturers look for reclaimed feedstock materials in an effort to support environmental groups that are challenging industry to recycle where possible and eliminate emissions in their production processes. Industrialinfo.com originally reported plans for this new plant in June of 2003, as part of its North American Project Database.
