Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Oriana Energy LLC (Miami, Florida), part of a joint venture between Yarotek LLC (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Sonnedix Solar (Miami), has started construction on the first phase of a solar photovoltaic (PV) power station in Isabela, Puerto Rico. The PV power station will be constructed in two phases. The total estimated value for both phases is about $175 million.
The engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for both phases of the project is METKA EGN Limited (London, England); Schneider Electric USA, Incorporated (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) is the electrical subcontractor.
The power station will consist of ground mounted, fixed tilt (Jinko)-polycrystalline solar panels over an area of about 200 acres. Each phase will produce 30 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy. The station will generate enough electricity for about 14,000 homes as well as commercial and industrial sectors.
This project will be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean and will help Puerto Rico meet its renewable energy objectives. The power station is estimated to create about 300 site preparation and construction jobs at the peak of development, and 10-15 permanent positions will be created for labor security, operation and maintenance.
Phase I is scheduled to be completed by the middle of this year. Phase II is scheduled to break ground in June and is slated for full operations by the end of 2016.
