Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The global energy shortage has led many international companies to direct their attention to northwestern China's resource-rich Qinghai Province. In the first three quarters of 2007, 29 projects invested by international companies settled in Qinghai. The total investment added up to $1.1 billion.
In recent years, against the backdrop of a global energy crisis and assisted by large-scale business and trade events like the Qinghai Investment & Trade Fair for Economic Restructure, Qinghai has become the new hotspot for international energy investment. Qinghai offers competitive water and electricity prices and favorable investment and taxation policies aimed at attracting foreign investments. More and more international investors are moving their projects from eastern Chinese coastal cities to Qinghai. Investments in Qinghai centers on the following industries: mining and processing; sales; development of mine products; construction and operation of hydropower; semi-conductive poly-silicon materials development; manufacturing and sales; bio-energy research and application, and other projects that tap the local resources.
It is reported that 16 of the 29 newly settled foreign-invested projects are joint ventures, that three are cooperation projects and that 10 are solely foreign-owned. This investment momentum was particularly strong in the third quarter. Qinghai approved 12 foreign-invested projects and realized a total investment of $294.3 million. The influx of the high volume of foreign investments into Qinghai has upgraded the province's investment structure and also has helped to raise its green GDP index.
