Raizen, a joint venture of Cosan SA Industria y Comercio and Royal Dutch Shell plc, in conjunction with Italian technology provider Sebigas, intends to construct the largest biogas plant in Latin America in 2019. The facility, which will be installed at the site of Raizen´s ethanol distillery in Guariba, Brazil, will be able to receive 9,200 cubic meters per day of vinasse (a byproduct of the ethanol production process) and produce up to 187,000 cubic meters per day of biogas. This gas will then be used to generate 17.5 megawatts of electricity, which will be incorporated into the national grid.
