Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Leading biodiesel producer Renewable Energy Group Incorporated (NASDAQ:REGI) (REG) (Ames, Iowa) re-started the former North Texas Bio Energy plant in June of last year. The facility is located in New Boston, Texas.
REG picked up the 15-million-gallon-per-year biodiesel plant for just $300,000. The plant had not produced fuel since 2012, but REG performed some construction and minor upgrades prior to the start-up.
The company now operates 10 biorefineries in the U.S. and has interests in other plants. It also has been busy with some major acquisitions.
REG bought 50% of Tyson Foods' (NYSE:TSN) interest in the Dynamic Fuels biodiesel plant in Geismar, Louisiana, and re-named the plant REG Geismar LLC.
The company also bought Syntroleum's 50% interest in the Dynamic Fuels, with the goal of holding full ownership of the 75 million-gallon-per-year plant.
Another recent acquisition is LS9 Incorporated (South San Francisco, California). The new company, called REG Life Sciences LLC, will be a subsidiary of REG. It will include the company's existing research and development group in the Bay Area and its 75,000-gallon-per-year demonstration production facility in Okeechobee, Florida.
