Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The city of Roseville, California, has put a new combined-cycle power plant online at its Roseville Energy Park (REP), syncing in the generator breaker on October 13, 2007. The complex features two Siemens SGT800 gas turbines generators coupled with two Vogt heat recovery steam generators and a Siemens steam turbine generator for a combined output of 160 megawatts. The plant will provide an average of 40-45% of the city’s energy needs. The $179 million plant is Roseville Electric’s first generation system facility and will begin operation in October. Russ Nichols, Plant Manager stated that “Staff from the City of Roseville, Siemens, Gemma Power Systems, Aquatech and Calpine Power Services pulled together to build one fine plant. It’s been a pleasure to work with all of the extraordinary people that participated in this project.”

The plant will help stabilize Roseville Electric’s customer's rates by reducing the amount of electricity purchased in the open market and eliminating some transmission costs. Roseville Electric started the construction of the plant in August of 2005 and completed the plant in twenty-six months. The Engineering and Construction contract was awarded to Gemma Power Systems of California, Incorporated (Glastonbury, Connecticut). In addition to the power island equipment supply contract, Roseville entered into an agreement with Aquatech International (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania) to supply water treatment and zero liquid discharge equipment for the generation facility.
