If the project moves to fruition, it will involve the construction of new marine ship handling facilities, regasification sections, two cryogenic LNG storage tanks and other supporting facilities.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Saint Croix Development, LLC (Cutler, Maine) is planning to construct a new LNG receiving and regasification terminal near Calais, Maine. The proposed LNG terminal will be located on Red Beach near the border of the U.S. and Canada. The initial natural gas send out capacity of the proposed LNG terminal will be approximately 1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) and the estimated capital cost of the project is approximately $500 million.
If the project moves to fruition, it will involve the construction of new marine ship handling facilities, regasification sections, two 160,000 cubic meter cryogenic LNG storage tanks and other supporting facilities. The LNG terminal will be connected to the natural gas pipeline system owned by Maritimes & Northeast (Halifax, Nova Scotia). There are two existing right-of-ways that could be used to connect the terminal to the pipeline system. Both pipeline alternatives would be relatively short runs, measuring either 12 or 23 miles of 30 diameter pipeline.
Saint Croix has not yet filed with the FERC for its LNG receiving terminal proposal. The FERC filing will most likely come toward the end of 2006 or early 2007. Saint Croix has retained the services of ICF International, Incorporated (Houston, Texas) as its technical advisors. If the project gets sanctioned, construction will begin during 2009, with a completion and in-service date set for some time in 2012.
