CRE Energy, Limited, a subsidiary of Scottish Power plc (NYSE:SPW) (Glasgow, Scotland), is overseeing the construction of the $633 million, 322-megawatt (MW) Whitelee Forest Windfarm, which is located south of Glasgow. Construction on the project commenced in October 2006.
For the wind towers, Whitelee Forest will be utilizing 140 Siemens 2.3 MW Wind Turbine (SWT) sets split between models SWT 2.3-93 with 100 units and SWT 2.3-82 VS with 40 units. Siemens will not only supply the units, but will also provide installation, commissioning and maintenance.
CRE Energy will oversee the civil work and balance of plant electrical work that is being provided by a joint venture of Balfour Kilpatrick (Renfrew, Scotland) and Morrison Construction (Curdworth, England). Commercial operation of the first unit is expected by mid-2008 and to be completely done by mid-2009.
