Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The main powerhouse furnished with eight small coal-fired units and two chimneys of the Shandong Weishanhu Coal Power Company, Limited (SWCPC) (Shandong, China) was demolished by explosives on September 5, 2007. Several dozens of small thermal units with a total installed capacity of more than 700 megawatts (MW) were also demolished by explosives at cities such as Jining, Zaozhuang, Zibo, Dongying, Binzhou in North Chinas Shandong Province. This is another round of large-scale shutdowns of centralized dismantling activity after the shutdown of the Zibo Huaneng Baiyanghe Power Plant carried out in Shandong Province on May 27.
In order to promote energy conservation and emission reduction, alleviate the pressure on the environment and resources, and accelerate the upgrade in energy structure, these units have been listed in the shutdown plan of this year according to the united arrangement. The shutdown of these small units could save 1.2 million metric tons of coal, reduce SO2 emission by about 30,000 metric tons, and reduce CO2 emission by about 2.8 million metric tons every year.
This centralized dismantling activity is also the largest dismantling activity carried out in one time. After this centralized dismantling activity, the total shutdown of small thermal units reached 926 MW in Shandong Province, accounting for 91% the total planned for this year.
