LNG
U.S. LNG Exports Fall in January - Cold weather and outages at second-largest exporter Freeport LNG (Houston, Texas) cut U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports last month below the December record, LSEG ship-tracking data showed. U.S. producers exported 8.3 million metric tons of the superchilled gas, down nearly 5% from December's 8.7 million metric tons, which cemented the U.S. role as 2023's largest LNG exporter. (Reuters)
COAL
U.S. Thermal Coal Exports Hit Five-Year Highs in 2023 - U.S. exporters of thermal coal earned more than $5 billion in 2023 as they shipped out more than 32.5 million metric tons of the power fuel, data from ship-tracking firm Kpler shows. The thermal coal export earnings were the second-highest since 2017, following 2022's $5.7 billion. The total volumes were the highest since 2018 and came as U.S. power producers cut the amount of coal used in electricity generation to the lowest this century, data from energy think tank Ember shows. EARNINGS
Shell Reports $28 Billion Profit for 2023 - Shell plc (NYSE:SHEL) (London, England) reported a $28 billion profit for 2023 on Thursday. Annual profit was down 30% from the previous year's record, marked by lower chemicals and refining profit margins and slower fuel sales amid sluggish global economic activity following a blockbuster 2022 fueled by a surge in energy prices after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
