Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China's power consumption will increase about 3-5% year over year in 2009, according to the prediction of the Power Market Trade Report 2009 issued by the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing) recently.
Following the swift development of the grid, the national power market has continued steady development. In 2008, the number of cross-regional power transmission passages under the direct dispatching of the state grid reached 11, and transmission capacity reached 47,560 megawatts (MW). The total installed capacity of power plants directly participating in the national power market was 48,860 MW.
In 2008, the trade volume of the national power market reached 263.9 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), an increase of 23.9% year over year. Cross-regional power transactions reached 369.4 billion kWh, an increase of 20.7% year over year. The state grid's procurement of electricity from power producers reached 2,173.0 billion kWh, an increase of 9.2% year over year.
In 2008, the trade-of-generation quota was carried out in all provincial grids within the operation district of the state grid, and the transaction volume reached 99 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 84.6% year over year, which has additionally achieved outstanding results in energy conservation and emissions reduction.
In 2009, the expected installed capacity of new power-generating units will be about 80,000 MW. After the decommissioning and shutdown of 10,000 MW of inefficient small thermal power units, China's installed capacity will reach 860,000 MW at the end of 2009. The overall power supply is expected to be greater than the demand in 2009.
