Sustainable Goals Continue to Spur Investment in Fluidized Bed Boilers
Industrial Info is tracking more than US$30 billion geared toward constructing, installing and utilizing circulating fluidized bed boilers.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fluidized bed boilers are industrial boilers that burn solid fuels like coal, biomass and waste materials in a combustion chamber where fuel particles are suspended in an upward-flowing stream of air. The bed temperature is kept below the ash fusion point, and the combustion air pressure ranges from 1.2 to 20 atm, depending on the system type. Fluidized bed boilers offer various advantages like high combustion efficiency, reduced emissions, easy ash removal and can burn a wide range of fuels.
The global demand for clean power generation roots from the need for cost-effective, clean fuel technology that can adapt to various fuels, which is why fluidized bed boilers are proving to be better as compared to the conventional firing system, pulverized coal combustion (PCC). For instance, pulverized combustion firing allocates approximately 30% of the combustion air for high-pressure primary air, which is used for drying and transporting fuel. On the other hand, the circulating fluidized bed system employs a higher-pressure primary air, constituting 60% of the combustion air, primarily for the purpose of fluidization.
Industrial Info is tracking more than US$30 billion geared toward constructing, installing and utilizing circulating fluidized bed boilers. As a world region, Asia is driving about 71% of the spending, equaling US$26.48 billion. By country, Vietnam, Indonesia and China are the three major countries driving the most spending, which equal US$6.29 billion, US$5.91 billion and US$4.28 billion, respectively.
It must be noted that about 67.5% of the projects are in their planning phase, while 17.5% are being engineered and the remaining 15% are under construction. A majority of projects are expected to become operational between 2024 and 2029.
