Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A fertilizer project using one of the world's most advanced fertilizer-production technologies began construction in mid-September at the natural-gas-rich Tarim Basin in Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The 450,000-ton-per-annum (TPA) synthetic ammonia and 800,000-TPA urea project will be built at Ku'erle Petrochemical Industrial Park and is scheduled for completion in October 2009. Upon completion, 497 million cubic meters of natural gas is expected to be consumed by this project every year while generating $133 million in annual sales. The foundation for the project was laid in August 2006.
The project will manufacture 1,500 tons per day of synthetic ammonia and 2,640 tons per day of melted urea. It will also include pelleting facilities and other public-use auxiliary equipment.
Key equipment will be imported to ensure that waste-gas and waste-water discharge meet or exceed national standards. The energy consumption for producing 1 ton of synthetic ammonia at this project is 27.6 gigajoules (GJ). In regard to safety, the environment and energy efficiency, the project is at the advanced level nationally.
According to the project's plan, the underground piping system, groundwork for the synthetic ammonia furnace and groundwork for the urea storage will be completed within the year. Construction of the fertilizer unit's steel framework and the factory are scheduled to finish in 2008. Long-term equipment, electronic meters and devices, and processing pipes will be installed before July 2009.
