Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Electromechanical assembly work has begun at the 126-megawatt (MW) Caracoles Hydroelectric Plant in the Argentine Province of San Juan. EPSE officials said that workers are currently mounting the electromechanical equipment, including turbine's stators and generators. The filling of the reservoir will begin next October 2008, and the turbines tests will run from December 2008 through March 2009. The plant is expected to begin operation in March 2009 with a maximum power availability of 80 MW, whereas its maximum power output of 126MW is expected for the plant's second year of operation.
The $250 million project includes two 62.9 MW Francis vertical type turbines supplied by Russian Power Machines (Moscow) and will provide 126 MW of electricity to the western part of the country, contributing to balance the energetic deficit and to reinforce the irrigation system.
