Texas' Sandow Power Station Shuts Down Coal Unit after Valve Problem

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Sandow Power Station, located in Rockdale, Texas, shut down its 661-megawatt (MW), coal-fired unit on Tuesday, June 17, following a high-pressure feed water leak and valve issue. After a brief investigation, plant officials still were unable to isolate the valve that is in need of repair. The plant is owned by Luminant Energy Company LLC (Dallas, Texas), which is in joint administration with Energy Future Holdings Corporation (Dallas).

Officials are still investigating the cause, but say that the unit will be down for a few days. They hope to make the repairs and return the unit online by Sunday, if there are no delays.

The coal-fired plant has two generating units and a total generating capacity of 1,251 MW when at full load.
