Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--THDC India Limited (Rishikesh, Uttarakhand), India's state-owned hydropower company, is scouting for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm to explore opportunities in the country's wind power sector. The company has invited bids from parties interested in developing 50 megawatts (MW) of wind power capacity in any one of the wind power-potential states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
According to THDC, the successful bidder will be responsible for identifying the potential sites; acquisition of land; detailed engineering; and the manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the wind turbine generators (WTGs), along with the execution of associated civil works and as overall operation and maintenance (O&M) of the power assets for 20 years.
THDC India Limited, formerly known as Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited, is a joint venture enterprise of the government of India and the state government of Uttar Pradesh. The company was incorporated in July 1988 to develop, operate and maintain the 2,400-MW Tehri Hydro Power Complex in the state of Uttarakhand.
As per the pre-conditions laid down by THDC, the participating company should be a manufacturer of WTGs of 1,000-kilowatt (kW) rating or above and must have executed Wind Power Projects with a total capacity of 40 MW in any 12-month period in the last five years, as of the date of submission for the bid.
In terms of financial standards, the average annual turnover of the bidder in the preceding three financial years, as of the date of techno-commercial bid opening, should be more than $68.5 million. The last date for a submission is January 16, 2013.
The 2,400-MW Tehri Hydro Power Complex comprises a multipurpose dam, the 1,000-MW Tehri hydropower plant, the 400-MW Koteshwar hydropower plant, and the under-construction 1,000-MW Tehri pump-storage based power project. The Tehri Multipurpose Project provides power benefits to Northern India, along with irrigation benefits to the state of Uttar Pradesh and drinking water supply to the National Capital Region of Delhi.
THDC presently has 15 projects with a total installed capacity of 8,770 MW, which are under various stages of development. THDC is implementing the 444-MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti hydroelectric project on Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand. This World Bank-funded project was accorded approval by the government of India in August 2008, and the loan agreement was signed with the World Bank in August 2011.
Besides these, five hydroelectric projects of THDC with a total installed capacity of 742 MW are under various stages of survey and investigation in the Bhagirathi, Alaknanda and Sarda valleys in Uttarakhand. The company is also implementing a 24-MW hydropower project at Dhukwan, on Betwa River, and a 1,320-MW, coal-fired, thermal power project at Khurja, in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh.
