Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tobolsk-Polimer LLC (Tobolsk, Russia) is moving forward with plans to add two new production units in Tobolsk that will produce propylene and polypropylene. The combined total investment value for the two projects is estimated at $850 million.
Maire Tecnimont SpA (BIT:MT) (Milan, Italy) was selected as the engineering and construction contractor for the propylene unit. Once complete in the first quarter of 2011, the unit is planned to produce 510,000 metric tons per year. UOP's Oleflex process technology will be utilized. Feedstock will be provided by NOVATEK OAO (RTC:NVTK) (Moscow, Russia) and will be processed by dehydrogenation.
Tobolsk has selected Linde-KCA-Dresden GmbH (Dresden, Germany) to serve as the engineering and construction contractor for the polypropylene unit addition. The 500,000-metric-ton-per-year unit will be fitted with INEOS' process technology.
The projects have received initial environmental impact assessment approvals and are awaiting final approval. Construction on both units is expected to begin in late 2008.
Tobolsk-Polimer, a subsidiary of SIBUR, was established in spring 2006 to produce polypropylene in the Tyumen region.
