Esso Petroleum Company Ltd has shut down the 75,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Fluid Catalytic Cracker Unit (FCCU) at its 270,000-BBL/d Fawley Refinery in the U.K. On the evening of November 8, the plant flare system was activated following an isolated incident involving the FCCU. A damage assessment is underway.
Repsol Petroleo SA experienced a fire during restarting procedures of the 18,100-BBL/d Isomax (Hydrocracker) unit at its 174,000-BBL/d Tarragona, Spain, refinery. The fire was extinguished, and a damage assessment is underway. The impact is currently unknown, but other processing units were not affected by the fire.
Astron Energy has delayed the restart of its 100,000-BBL/d Cape Town Refinery in South Africa, which has been under an unplanned shutdown since July 2, 2020, due to a fire during the restart process. Before that, the refinery was under a planned major maintenance shutdown since February 2. Expectations are to complete the repairs and restart the units by December 30, 2022.
