Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 1 at the North Anna Power Station tripped offline this morning after a problem occurred in the electrical bus system, which distributes voltage to the generators. The nuclear power plant is on a 1,075-acre (435-hectare) site in Louisa County, Virginia.

Officials had just completed a four-week refueling outage and were still in the process of ramping back to full power. Plant officials hope to have the unit back online by early next week. Unit 2 was not affected.

North Anna is operated by Dominion Generation, a subsidiary of Dominion Resources Incorporated (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia), and is jointly owned by the Dominion Virginia Power Corporation (88.4%) and Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (11.6%).

The plant has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors that went online in 1978 and 1980. Together, the reactors generate 1.79 gigawatts of power, which is distributed mainly to the greater Richmond area and northern Virginia. In March 2003, the NRC approved 20-year license extensions for units 1 and 2.
