U.S. Automotive Plant Closures Rise for 2017-2018

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Planned U.S. automotive plant closures have risen for the period of 2017 through 2018. Industrial Info is tracking seven plant closure projects worth $7.5 million.

Schrader Electronics, which manufactures tire pressure monitoring devices, will close its manufacturing plant in Springfield, Tennessee, displacing about 300 employees. Schrader Electronics will move the operations to China and Mexico. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Fraser, Michigan, Faurecia North America is closing its seat manufacturing plant, due to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' (NYSE:FCAU) (London, England) discontinuation of its Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart auto lines. In Glasgow, Kentucky, Dana Incorporated (Maumee, Ohio) is closing the doors of its automotive gear set, shaft & gearing component manufacturing plant due to a sluggish market. The closure will impact 203 employees. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Yanfeng Automotive Interiors (Shanghai, China) is closing its automotive injection molding plant in Lansing, Michigan, as a result of the relocation of Fiat Chrysler's relocation of its Jeep Cherokee manufacturing operations from Ohio to Illinois. In Lexington, Kentucky, Johnson Controls Incorporated plans to close its automotive seats plant beginning in late 2018 and phase out 300 jobs. The work will instead be done at the company's plant in Alabama. For related information, see Industrial Info's project report.
