Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The foundation for American chemical manufacturer LORDfs new subsidiary was laid in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. The $15.8 million plant is expected to begin operation in September 2008. It is designed with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons of adhesive, 1,600 tons of coating and 3,000 tons of encapsulating material, which is widely used in industries such as automobile, construction, machinery and aerospace.
The plantfs manufacturing process is reported as being in compliance with Chinafs industrial development strategy for energy conservation and waste-emission reduction. Taking advantage of LORDfs patent technology and the parkfs accessory facilities, the plantfs energy and water consumption per unit output value is expected to be far less than the energy and water consumption standard set by Shanghai industrial energyfs efficiency guide (2006 version) stipulated by Shanghaifs municipal government.
LORDfs new plant is the fourth U.S. chemical project to enter the park. International companies, such as Britainfs BP, Germanyfs BASF and Japanfs Mitsubishi Chemical, have placed their manufacturing subsidiaries in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, with the investment amounting to2.94 billion so far.
Covering an area of 29.4 square kilometers, the park in southern Shanghai features well-developed transportation facilities. As one of the largest industrial park projects listed in Chinafs 10th five-year plan (2001-05), the park aims to be one of the largest and most integrated petrochemical bases in Asia, boasting an annual industrial output of $13.3 billion.
Cary, North Carolina-based LORD, which specializes in manufacturing chemical products, was founded more than 80 years ago in the U.S. LORD has 17 manufacturing facilities in nine countries, and its sales volume exceeds $630 million. LORD already has three other subsidiaries established in Shanghai: LORD International Trading Company Limited, Shanghai LORD Chemical Company Limited and LORD Mechanical Company Limited.
