U.S. Clean Power Growth, South Korea Nuclear Surge: Your Daily Energy News

News highlights gathered by Industrial Info and IIR Energy (Sugar Land, Texas) dealing with the energy markets.

POWER
Data Provider: U.S. Clean Power Growth Slows in 2025
- The pace of new capacity of U.S. solar, wind and battery systems has slowed nationally and in key states this year, according to data compiled by energy data platform Cleanview as of mid-2025. Combined installations of solar, wind and battery storage systems are on track to climb by around 7% in 2025 from the year before. That would mark the smallest year-over-year percentage expansion in the footprint of those energy technologies in over a decade.

Solar power capacity has been the fastest-growing form of clean power generation over the past five years, with national capacity expanding by 181% since 2020 to roughly 136,250 megawatts (MW) as of mid-2025, Cleanview data shows. Total U.S. solar capacity has grown by an annual average of 27% since 2020, but so far in 2025 has only grown by 10% from 2024's total due to the sharp slowdown in developer activity. The 1.8% expansion in total U.S. wind capacity so far this year is the smallest annual increase in the U.S. wind power footprint since at least 2010. Battery energy storage systems (BESS) have been the fastest-growing segment of the clean energy space in recent years, and continue to expand at a faster pace than wind and solar farms in 2025. Total installed utility-scale BESS capacity was 33,212 MW as of mid-2025, Cleanview data shows, which is up 22% from 2024's total. (Reuters)

South Korea's Nuclear Power Output Surges - South Korea's nuclear power output is racing ahead of official targets. Generation from nuclear plants grew 8.7% year-over-year in the six months through June--three times official plans for 2.9% annual growth--while coal-fired output plunged 16%, data from state-run utility Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) (Naju, South Korea) showed. China's Refined Products Exports Hit 13-Month High
- China's exports of refined products, including diesel, gasoline, aviation fuel and marine fuel, rose 7.1% year on year to 5.34 million tons in July, according to customs data, maintaining the strong momentum from last month and reaching the highest monthly total since June 2024. Diesel exports surged in July, up 53.2% year-on-year to 820,000 tons, reaching the highest level since September 2024. Gasoline exports stood at 930,000 tons in July, up 18.6% year-on-year. China's exports of aviation fuel rose 10.9% year-on-year to 1.97 million tons in July, reaching the highest level since March 2025. While the July monthly figures are strong, year-to-date exports of diesel and gasoline are down. (Reuters)
