Summary

According to Industrial Info Resources data, there are more than 30 active construction equipment-manufacturing projects in the U.S., more than $670 billion worth of which is under construction.

Led by Texas

According to Industrial Info Resources data, there are more than 30 active projects involving U.S. construction equipment manufacturing, valued at more than $1.2 billion, that are in various stages of development from planning through on-the-ground construction. More than $670 million worth of these are presently under construction. Thanks to a single large project from equipment-maker JCB, Texas leads the U.S. in terms of spending in this sector.

JCB's Texas development, the largest construction-equipment project underway in the nation, kicked off construction last year in San Antonio. Industrial Info Resources has been reporting on project since 2023. The grassroot manufacturing facility will encompass more than 720,000 square feet and will include equipment and supporting systems to manufacture telescopic handlers and aerial work platforms. Construction is expected to be completed later this year, when JCB will begin ramping up production. Industrial Info Resources estimates the project's overall cost to be in excess of $360 million; subscribers to the Industrial Info Resources Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.

Another Texas equipment project under construction is much smaller in scope but comes from one of the sector's heavy hitters: Caterpillar. The company's project under construction in Seguin--not far from San Antonio--is aimed at manufacturing an engine used in Caterpillar's construction machinery--specifically the Cat C13D industrial engine. The C13D is a 13-liter diesel engine for what the company describes as "heavy-duty off-highway applications such as material handling, construction, mining, and aircraft ground support." According to Industrial Info Resources data, the company is investing $20 million in the Seguin facility; subscribers can click here to learn more about the project.

Other On-the-Ground Projects

Arizona and North Carolina trail Texas in distant second and third places, respectively. Like Texas, the primary spending in these states comes from single large projects. Komatsu is expected to wrap up an $80 million project in Mesa, Arizona, toward the end of this year for the manufacture of construction, mining and forestry equipment, while John Deere is investing more than $70 million on the expansion of an excavator plant Kernersville, North Carolina. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the reports on the Mesa and Kernersville projects.

Planned Construction Equipment Projects

According to Industrial Info Resources data, about $550 million worth of U.S. construction equipment projects are in the planning or engineering stages. One the largest of these projects is expected to kick off construction within a few months: Equipment-maker KMR has had a presence in Kansas for more than 60 years and is relocating its headquarters and manufacturing facility within Sterling, in a new 430,000-square-foot facility that will provide increased space and production capacity. According to Industrial Info Resources data, the $105 million project is expected to wrap up in late 2027 or early 2028. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.

Iowa also represents a key project destination, accounting for seven planned capital construction equipment projects. At the top of these is DICA USA's expansion of its plant in Urbandale to manufacture the company's outrigger pads and crane mats used in the construction industry. Industrial Info Resources expects construction on the $30 million project to begin later this year; subscribers can click here to learn more about the project.
