U.S. Mid-Atlantic Region to See $2.5 Billion in Second-Quarter Industrial Manufacturing Project Starts
Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) is tracking more than $2.5 billion in Industrial Manufacturing projects that are planned to kick off in second-quarter 2019 in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region, which includes, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) is tracking more than $2.5 billion in Industrial Manufacturing projects that are planned to kick off in second-quarter 2019 in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region, which includes, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. South Carolina, with more than $892 million in planned projects, leads the region in terms of project value, followed by Virginia, with $860 million in planned project starts.

Data centers represent one of the chief types of Industrial Manufacturing projects planned to kick off in the region in the quarter. Among the largest of these is Alphabet Incorporated's (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (Mountain View, California) planned expansion of its Google data center in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. The project includes adding a building to the seven-building site to help support search engine functionality and other services such as Gmail. In Virginia, Edgecore Internet Real Estate's (Denver, Colorado) planned Phase I construction of a colocation data center in Sterling is in the engineering phase. The facility will be built on a 36.8-acre site and will include a 180,000-square-foot data hall with 36 megawatts of utility power. Construction is expected to begin soon, for completion by the end of the year. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $150 million. Light rail projects are frequent in the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, and the Mid-Atlantic region is no different, with one planned to kick off in Maryland near Washington, D.C. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Washington, D.C.) will construct 3.1 miles of track and one station between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station and the Braddock Road station along the existing Yellow and Blue lines to increase commuter transportation access. Construction is expected to take about three years. Potomac Yard Constructors (Nanuet, New York) is performing design-build services. The project has an estimated TIV of $320 million. A couple of automobile component manufacturing projects also make their way into the mix. In Buffalo, West Virginia, Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) (Toyota City, Japan) is planning to expand its engine and transmission manufacturing plant. A 72,000-square-foot building will be constructed along with a new hybrid transaxle production line to double production capacity to 240,000 units a year. Several warehouse and distribution center projects are also in the works. Among these is Trammel Crow Company's (Washington, D.C.) planned speculative distribution center in Hagerstown, Maryland.
