Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pinnacle Renewable Energy Group (Prince George, British Columbia) is nearing completion of a seventh fuel-pellet mill in British Columbia as steam vapor begins sputtering from the dryer stack at the new plant, which is located next door to Tolko Industries Limited's (Vernon, British Columbia) planer mill in Lavington, British Columbia.
Pinnacle Renewable Energy formed the Lavington Pellet Limited Partnership (Lavington, British Columbia) with Tolko Industries to build the C$47 million ($35 million) pellet mill on seven acres adjacent to the Tolko mill. Limited fuel pellet production has begun, and full production is expected to be under way by the end of the month.
Stolberg Engineering Limited (Richmond, British Columbia) supplied engineering and design services. Contractors Timber West Mill Construction Limited (Prince George, British Columbia) and Service Electric Limited (Quesnel, British Columbia) also served on the project. The contract for the construction of the raw materials bulk-storage MegaDome buildings was awarded to BuildWorks Construction Incorporated (Rosedale, British Columbia).
Once in full production, the mill will have the capacity to manufacture 250,000 metric tonnes per year of fuel pellets, which will provide renewable fuel to homes, businesses and schools in North America, as well as power markets in Europe and Asia.
With seven fuel pellet mills running in British Columbia, Pinnacle will have the capacity to produce more than 1.4 million tons per year of fuel pellets.
To move such a vast quantity of fuel pellets, Pinnacle constructed a new exporting terminal at the Port of Prince Rupert, which went into operation in late 2014. In June 2015, Pinnacle transported the world's largest single shipment of 60,000 tons of pellets via Panamax-class vessel to the Port of Immingham in the U.K. to provide fuel for the Drax Power Station located in Selby, North Yorkshire.
