Vernon Municipal Light Begins Construction on Malburg Generating Station in California

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Vernon Municipal Light Department (Vernon, California) began construction on (Plant 1026186, PEC 06003690) the Malburg Generating Station located in Vernon, California in Los Angeles County.

Construction for the project began in early September and is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2004. The plant will consist of two 43-Megawatt Alstom Power Incorporated GTX100 natural gas-fired combustion turbine generators equipped with dry low-NOx (DLN) combustors for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) control. The units will also have evaporative inlet air coolers to enhance turbine performance in hot weather. The hot exhaust gases from the combustion turbine generators will be directed to parallel heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) equipped with duct burners and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). The steam generated by the HRSGs will be used to drive a single 50-Megawatt Alstom Power Incorporated MP24 condensing steam turbine generator. The power generated by these Combined- Cycle units will be distributed through the existing 69kV Vernon Substation.

The owners engineering contract was awarded to Power Engineers Incorporated (Hailey, Idaho). Power Engineers provide creative engineering designs for power generation, transmission and distribution, manufacturing, and healthcare.

The general construction contract was awarded to University-Marelich Mechanical (UMM) (Anaheim, California) a branch of Marelich Mechanical Company Incorporated (headquartered in Hayward, California). UMM provides industry-leading experience in building and servicing power generation facilities, commercial HVAC and plumbing systems, central plants, process piping systems, biopharmaceutical process and delivery cleanrooms and high purity systems medical gas systems wastewater and pollution control systems.
