Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-LS Power Group (New York, New York) is set to break ground on the 340-megawatt (MW) Doswell Expansion Project in Ashland, Virginia. LS Power recently awarded Primoris Services Corporation (Dallas, Texas) the contract to construct the facility, located on the site of the existing Doswell Energy Center.
The original Doswell Energy Center opened in 1992. The latest project will utilize two General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts) high-efficiency combustion turbines, capable of operating on a dual-fuel configuration that provides efficiency, reliability, and operational and fuel flexibility. Construction on the project is expected to start next month and be complete by December 2017.
Doswell Energy Center currently operates four combined-cycle natural gas units, producing up to 665 MW of electricity and an additional turbine that produces 171 MW on peak mode. Marcellus/Utica shale gas will provide natural gas to the new facility, which will provide grid-stability for thousands of residents in the southeastern region of the U.S. This project has a total investment value of $235 million.
