The new facilities will be located in the states of Mato Grosso, Parana, Goias, Bahia, Ceara and Maranhao, which will each have one facility, while two plants will be constructed in the state of Para. Votorantim has awarded FLSmidth & Company AS (CPH:FLS) (Copenhagen, Denmark) the engineering, construction and commissioning contract for five processing lines. The contract is worth approximately $44 million. Votorantim has retained Loesche GmbH (Dusseldorf, Germany) to supply three cement raw-material mills. A bidding process for 12 new finishing mills is under way, and a definition is expected to be undertaken in the next few weeks.
The largest facilities will be constructed in the state of Goias, in the city of Edealina, and in Parana state, in the city of Rio Branco do Sul, where Votorantim already owns a huge cement complex. Each facility will produce 2 million tons per year of cement and will operate through a 5,000-ton-per-day kiln, and a Cross-Bar cooler and five-stage ILC preheater from FLSmidth. Loesche will supply each plant with a 440-ton-per-hour raw mill, type LM 53.6. According to a Loesche press release, this LM 53.6 facility will be the first six-roller cement raw-material mill in South America.
In the states of Mato Grosso, Bahia and Para, Votorantim will construct three 1.2 million-ton-per-year cement plants. Each facility will operate through a 3,000-ton-per-day kiln, Cross-Bar cooler and five-stage ILC preheater from FLSmidth. A Loesche raw mill, type LM 45.4 with a capacity 264 tons per hour, will be installed in the cement plant to be built in the Bahia state.
Three cement grinding mills will be constructed in the states of Ceara, Maranhao and Parana, each with production capacities of 750,000 tons per year of cement. All facilities are expected to start operations by the end of 2013.
Votorantim Cimentos, a Brazilian company founded in 1936, is one of the world's top 10 manufactures of cement, concrete and aggregates. The company is the Brazilian market leader, with 40% of market share and 40 production units, as well as 70 distribution centers and 90 central concrete plants.
