Waste Management Incorporated, Others Begin Construction at Landfill Gas-to Energy Plant in New Springfield, Ohio

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Last month, Waste Management Incorporated (NYSE:WM) (Houston, Texas), Mahoning Landfill Incorporated (New Springfield, Ohio), T.V. John & Son (Butler, Wisconsin) and Great Lake Power (Mentor, Ohio) started construction at the Mahoning landfill gas-to-energy plant in New Springfield. As of now, the timeline for construction is set to be a year or more, which will make the completion date for the second or third quarter of 2013.

This renewable power plant is designed for 9 megawatts (MW) but will operate at 4.8 MW. Mahoning will consist of six internal combustion engines that will produce methane gas and will generate enough electricity to power more than 3,000 homes in New Springfield. Once the units are installed and the plant is operational, the Mahoning landfill gas-to-energy plant will be one out of hundreds of renewable power plants that will provide renewable green energy to power homes.

Waste Management Incorporated will be the owner of the plant. Waste Management owns or operates more than 130 landfill gas-to-energy comforts in North America. Mahoning Landfill Incorporated is a subsidiary of Waste Management and will be the operator when the power plant becomes operational.

T.V. John & Son manages construction projects, as well as concrete, masonry and carpentry. It will oversee construction of the Mahoning landfill gas-to-energy project.

Great Lake Power, which specializes in electrical and transmission work, was awarded the electrical portion of the project.
